Switzerland
Welcome to Switzerland!
We’re delighted to welcome you to your new home. Starting your new life in Switzerland means opening the door to stunning nature, rich culture, and exciting opportunities. Switzerland, sits in the heart of Europe and is made up of 26 cantons, with Bern as its capital. Though small in size, it’s wonderfully diverse — with majestic Alps, peaceful lakes, green plateaus, and charming valleys waiting to be explored.
About eight million people live here, mostly in the Plateau region where you’ll find the biggest cities, Zurich and Geneva. Both are lively international centers, full of culture, opportunities, and connections from all over the world.
Switzerland is proud of its long tradition of neutrality, democracy, and independence. It is home to the Red Cross, the United Nations’ second-largest office, and many other international organizations. Though not part of the European Union, it enjoys close cooperation with Europe and is part of the Schengen Area, making travel simple and open.
What makes Switzerland truly special is its mix of languages and cultures. German, French, Italian, and Romansh are all official languages here, and together they reflect the country’s spirit of unity in diversity. You’ll often see the Latin name Helvetia on coins and stamps — another symbol of belonging and togetherness.
Today, Switzerland is one of the most developed and welcoming countries in the world. It offers safety, stability, and a quality of life that is hard to beat. Zurich and Geneva often appear on lists of the best cities to live in, but wherever you settle, you’ll find beauty, opportunity, and a warm community.
We wish you every success and happiness as you begin this new chapter. Welcome — we’re glad you’re here!
